About Us
The Cappella Singers of Upminster, based in Upminster, Essex, is an amateur, mixed voice chamber choir.

The choir has been singing in Upminster and the surrounding area for over 50 years, and enjoys singing a wide range of music from the renaissance to the present day. Although mostly singing classical music, members enjoy singing folk music and some jazzier pieces too!

Despite the name, not all our concerts are “a cappella” (unaccompanied). We often have organ or piano accompaniment, and have sung with a range of instrumental ensembles and harp. Neither do we only sing sacred music as implied by the Italian translation of Cappella (chapel), but perform a mix of both sacred and secular works. Read more about the music we sing here.

Initially stablished by local musician and teacher Freda Drage in 1967, we have in recent years worked with a number of dynamic young conductors on the masters degree course in Choral Conducting at the Royal Academy of Music. Read more about our previous conductors here.
